According to the Tyler Rose Festival Museum’s video, a family from Tyler visited the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair Rose Garden, learning that the roses came from their hometown. Soon after returning home, they began a campaign to build a rose garden in Tyler. In 1912, the City of Tyler purchased land for the garden and fairground. Officially opened in 1952, the Tyler Rose Garden was filled with roses donated by local rose growers combined with roses from nurseries in California and Arizona. The garden peaks at the end of April and again in mid-October!
