As the focal point of your living room, the mantel becomes an integral part of your home design, especially during the holidays. Read on for a few tips on how you can make your mantel a show-stopping centerpiece of your home this holiday season!

Mix styles

Mixing modern and vintage styles is a great way to add some intrigue to your mantel. For this design, we mixed more modern items such as the white orchid flowers and their black-rimmed holder with a few vintage items, like the eclectic brass deer and antique books. Utilizing a mix of both old and new styles will ensure your mantel gets the attention it deserves.

Add real greenery

Using real greenery will amplify your mantel by adding texture, and creating a sense of the outdoors in your space. You can get real greenery from your local florist. Then mix with evergreens from a local tree farm or anywhere that sells trees.

Add some warmth

Adding greenery, antique books, or even a battery-powered candle can create a feeling of warmth on your mantel. Make sure to have some darker colors worked throughout the design, if your décor is mostly light, airy colors. This will create a snug atmosphere in your space, and encourage your family and friends to cozy up by the fireplace.

Find a backdrop

Whether it is a piece of artwork or a mirror, as we used for this mantel, make sure your mantel has a backdrop. The backdrop you choose will serve as the foundation for the rest of your décor choices. Opting for a more neutral backdrop ensures you can switch out your décor seasonally without changing the backdrop every time.

Create dimension

Use different heights in your décor to create dimension. In this mantel, we started with the foundation of the tall mirror. Then we incorporated a few brass candlesticks along with the overhanging orchid to rise above the brass deer. This strategy ensures that your mantel looks fuller and creates visual interest.
