Custom Homes of Texas: Bellville

It was an episode of the popular Texas-based show Fixer Upper that served as a springboard for the entire home’s design. Homeowner Bailey was watching an episode of Fixer Upper when saw her dream kitchen in the show. When she started working with Bellville-based Republic Custom Builders designer Lisa Myers, she knew for a fact it was the kitchen she wanted, and the show served as inspiration for the home. “A lot of times a client has an inspiration, but they change a lot of it,” Myers said. “In this case, everything was purchased and designed to reflect the show. She knew that the kitchen was 100 percent hers.”

While the television show may have served as an inspiration for the rest of the home, the homeowners and Myers worked together to make the custom build work with their day-to-day life. For example, the couple’s fondness of their three boxers meant they needed a paw-friendly, scratch resistant flooring. Myers selected a wood-grain tile along with matching grout for a farmhouse style wood look.

Just like the flooring, the entire home is the perfect balance of pretty and practical. From a doggy shower en miniature to a secret laundry room door, the custom-built home is packed with features. “We get to pitch all the ‘I wish I had’ type ideas to our clients and make them really pretty,” Myers said. “People worry that if it is functional, it will not be pretty. But we make sure everything is well made and stylish. Plus, anything that makes it easier to do laundry is a win!”

The same paint color is used throughout the home with a few exceptions. Sherwin-Williams Light French Gray was the gray Myers rooted for the entire time. “We even wrapped it up onto the ceiling in a flat finish,” she said. “If we have a light enough neutral, we do that so the crown molding can pop.”

In the master bedroom, a textured, upholstered headboard brings texture and color that is neutral enough to work with any linen choice.

The homeowners opted for an accent wall in the office to add a touch of masculinity to the room. It is offset by the white bookcase wall, making it the perfect place to go dark.

The trick to a well-styled bookcase? Removing jacket covers. “The big thing I recommend is to buy hardback books then take jackets off,” Myers said. “The hardcovers should have similar colors. Then group them in a way that is not chaotic or overwhelming—let books be dominant and add one element in to each section.”

They specifically selected the dark-colored cabinet to help the hardware stand out and give the en suite a high-end feel. “It feels like a spa and looks like you could be checking into a hotel,” Myers said. “It’s a little escape.”

Custom made doors add plenty of storage to the laundry room. “It’s a secret door,” Myers said. “When you open it, you are in the master closet and the back of the door is a full-length mirror on that side. Our trim guys built it custom.”

This dog bath is the perfect place to rinse out furry friends. It features simple classic subway tiles with a dark contrasting grout. The petite glass doors were custom ordered from the glass company that also created the full-size adult shower doors for the home.
