With the Texas heat coming to an end, we welcome the beauty that autumn brings. Mother Nature is at her best when she paints the trees with warm tones of gold, yellow, and red. One can only sit back on their porch and breathe in the spicy scents that fill the cool, fall breeze. Use porch décor to enhance those great feelings of autumn.

Now that September is at our doorstep, it is time to start taking tips from Mother Nature herself when it comes to decorating for fall. Your front and back porch is an extension of your house that comes with an advantage, especially during the autumn season — the breeze. Porches are important here in the South, so that means it is equally significant when it comes to decorating, especially for the fall. Whether your porch is big or small, it is your home’s first impression, so make it count when welcoming the season of fall breezes and autumn leaves.

Whether you use pumpkins, hay bales, or garland, anyone can achieve the harvest look with a few eye-catching accents. Here are quick, simple décor tips to guide you in the right direction to achieve that festive harvest look that will last from September to Thanksgiving.

Outdoor Fireplace Decorated for Fall

“Hay” there, fall!

What is an instant way to convey that fall feeling? Hay Bales! It

Does not matter if you have a small or large porch; hay bales are the classic touch to add fall character. If you have limited space, extend the hay bales past the front stoop or stack the hay bales to give more dimension and space to add décor. Hay bales are versatile and provide a stable base for potted plants and pumpkins.

Autumn Leaves and Lots of Pumpkins, Please

With a quick trip to your local pumpkin patch, you can immediately change your porch from summer to fall. You can elect to go traditional with classic orange pumpkins or create a warm fall atmosphere by including different styled and colored pumpkins. Do not be worried to throw in a couple of faux pumpkins, either. Faux pumpkins are an excellent investment to reuse for years to come and can easily be found at local home décor stores.

The Charm of Light in Porch Décor

The warm glow of candlelight is the ideal way to enjoy an evening on the porch. You can achieve this look by purchasing rustic lanterns and using faux candles. Placing lanterns on the front porch is an inviting way to welcome trick-or-treaters and Thanksgiving guests. Tucking them within pumpkins will also give you the ultimate fall appearance. You can use lanterns on the back porch, as well, for a romantic glow while enjoying that fall breeze and a glass of wine.

Leaves are Falling, and Autumn Plants are Calling

Nothing signifies fall more than leaves changing; Texas, unfortunately, does not experience many changes in leaves. The best way to imitate this classic fall look is by adding mums to your porch. After all, mums are the ultimate fall plant! Colorful mums frame your doors and convey an enticing welcome to your family and guests, whether it is on the back or front porch. Mums also provide endless design possibilities. You can choose to go with a balanced look of placing mums on the opposite sides of the entryway or choose a more eclectic look by tucking mums on hay bales and in between pumpkins.

 October is my Favorite Color

Update your porch in the most budget-friendly way possible by using fall-inspired pillows. Fall-hued pillows are an instant way to transform your patio from reflecting the hot days of summer to the cool evenings of fall. Outdoor pillows provide a soft cushion for swinging or rocking on when those first cool fronts blow in. Tones in crimson, mustard yellow, burnt orange, and moss achieve the warm impression of fall.

Add Fall Foliage to Porch Décor

Make your porch stand out with a lovely foliage wreath and garland. Create a welcoming look by mounting a lush fall wreath with floral arrangements, sculptural moss, dried flowers, and faux fall leaves. You can add garland around your door frames and outdoor fireplace mantels. It does not matter if you have a neutral fall preference or traditional; there are numerous fall wreaths and garlands for every style. Do not forget wreaths are not just for front porches. Adding wreaths to side entrances and back porches also presents an inviting touch.

 Outdoor Bar Cart and Dining

When thinking of fall, college football comes straight to mind! Nothing is better than spending an evening on the back porch watching your alma mater play football, eating dinner, and having some delicious mixed drinks with friends. Throw a casual plaid tablecloth on your outdoor table, add a fall garland as a centerpiece, and deck out a bar cart for an impressive dinner party. After all, fall is the perfect time in Texas for outdoor dining! Include a mix of liquors, fun cocktail napkins, and a few pumpkins for an ideal evening of football, dinner, laughter, and hopefully, a team victory!

 Enhance Outdoor Sitting

A comfortable outdoor seating area can not only be a festive fall vignette but also can double as a place to gather and visit with neighbors. For a cozy outdoor setting, arrange chairs, a rug,  and an outdoor table. Adding an outdoor fireplace or fire pit will create an ideal spot for late-night s’mores and hot chocolate. If your space is limited, adding rocking chairs will be an excellent way to savor the crisp fall weather.

Make your home the talk of the neighborhood with an inviting mix of fall embellishments on your porch. With crisp air and cool nights, fall is a seasonal escape from the hot weather in Texas, so, embrace this time by making the most of your outdoor spaces.
