For many people, the idea of an elopement means sacrificing the beauty and elegance of a traditional ceremony in favor of a quick, impersonal exchange of vows without a second thought given to planning the event. Perhaps this was true in the past, but soaring wedding costs and busy schedules created the need for a fiscally responsible alternative that features all of the intimacy and romance of a traditional wedding with a more streamlined and affordable planning process. A plethora of truly unique options for elopements that combine Texas values of family and tradition with the simplicity of the modern age have risen in the Lone Star State within recent years.

Wildflower Country Inn and Events Center
Nestled on 40 acres just outside of Wimberly, the Wildflower Country Inn and Events Center offers “a truly made-to-order experience for all event, lodging, and community guests” in a perfect location near San Marcos and Canyon Lake! Owners Carley Hyden and Dallas Groseclose create an unparalleled elopement experience for couples. Not only do they provide packages that include everything a traditional wedding features, including music, lighting, and a customized reception-for-two, but Hyden also offers invaluable experience; she was an event coordinator for several years before taking over as a hostess following her own wedding on the property in early 2017.
Not planning a wedding or vow renewal? Hyden and her team also provide group lodging, private cottage stays, retreats, various events, and Wildflower Wednesdays community classes! Hyden explained, “One of the things that really sets us apart is the opportunity to build your own experience here,” with the Wildflower team ensuring that every detail is taken care of for all guests. The Inn & Events Center also offers onsite spa services, classes in herbalism, a nature trail for events, and a breakfast in bed for guests! In the future, Hyden hopes to continue to expand the property, ensuring that visitors are immersed in a personalized Texan adventure.
Mayfield House and Nature Preserve
For couples seeking an elopement venue as historic and beautiful as their love, the Mayfield House is the perfect choice! Purchased in 1909 by former Texas Secretary of State and Chairman of the Railroad Commission Allison Mayfield, the quaint Mayfield House was donated to the City of Austin to be used as a park when Mr. Mayfield’s daughter passed away in 1971. Just beyond Mayfield Park is the 21-acre Mayfield Nature Preserve complete with walking trails amidst a wildlife habitat where visitors can meet the descendants of Mr. Mayfield’s free-roaming peacocks that were given to him as a gift in 1935. Beyond the elopement possibilities offered by Mayfield’s legacy, the park and preserve offer the opportunity for Texans to actively support and tend to the historical property through volunteer work, including the Adopt-a-Garden program. Even if you are not planning a wedding or celebration, visiting is a must!
