From late September to early November, the arrival of fall seems to bring smells of bratwurst, krout, and schnitzel throughout Texas. It seems we cannot get enough of our Oktoberfest celebrations. Whether it is the draw of hearty German heritage, the sounds of live polka bands, or simply a good brew, this sort of festival is sure to gather crowds. So, strap on your lederhosen and grab your stein, here are five upcoming city Octoberfests.

Oktoberfest at Beethoven Maennerchor – San Antonio

When: October 1 – 2 and October 8 – 9

Where: Beethoven Maennerchor

Highlights: A festival so big, it takes two weekends to celebrate. Come see cloggers, live bands, and the tapping of a ceremonial keg each night.

Kaufman Oktoberfest – Kaufman

When: October 22 – 23

Where: Kaufman Sports Complex

Highlights: This festival boasts a parade, live bands, games, craft show and beer tent. Prost, Kaufman! There will be something for everyone at this Oktoberfest.

Island Oktoberfest – Galveston

When: October 22 – 23

Where: First Lutheran Church 24th and Winnie

Highlights: Hosted by First Lutheran, Texas’s oldest continual German church, all proceeds benefit First Lutheran’s community outreach programs. In addition to the regular Oktoberfest activities, this festival features “home-made desserts – specially prepared by congregation members from recipes handed down from generation to generation.”

Surftober Fest – Corpus Christi

When: October 23

Where: Marina Arts District

Highlights: This festival was held virtually last year, so locals are excited to have it coming back! Favorites from years past included annual German costume contests (for pets and people alike), beer stein holding contests, and of course a full day of live entertainment and dancing.

Wurstfest – New Braunfels

When: November 5 – 14

Where: 120 Landa St., New Braunfels, Texas

Highlights: Dubbed “The best ten days in sausage history,” this fest seems to be a good way to wrap up the Oktoberfest celebrations around the state. Wurstfest officially began in 1961, and has grown into a massive event with thousands of visitors each day. Do not miss these days full of shopping, carnivals, music, and food trucks. It will be a celebration to remember!
